Mild Insomnia or Restless Nights
The following suggested drinks should be taken one hour before you retire for the night.
Longan Tea: Put 15-20 pieces of Arillus Longan (see diagram; purchase at herb stores or Chinese grocery stores) in a mug. Add half a mug of boiling water. Cover the mug with a lid for 15 minutes. Drink it warm.
Ginger & Milk: Put 3-4 slices of fresh ginger root in a mug, and add milk until it is 3/4 full. Cover it with a piece of tin foil, or with a lid. Use a pot, and fill until the water level is about 7.5 cm (3 inches) deep. Put the mug in the water and cover with the pot-lid. Bring the water to a boil and simmer for half and hour. Drink it warm.
Insomnia may cause different daily life disturbances. When the conditions do not get better, consult your doctor or other professionals for advice.
Other suggestions
- Don't force yourself to get some sleep.
- Don't drink tea or coffee, or smoke after 8pm (near bed-time).
- Don't bring a suitcase of worries to bed.
- Adjust the room temperature and moisture level.
- A small serving of turkey sandwich one hour before bed-time might help, but watch your weight.
- Don't do and excessive amount of exercise within two hours of retiring.
- Use relaxation techniques.
- Listen to some soft music.
- Enjoy a moment of romance.
- Use a small amount of warm sesame oil, and rub it all over your feet. Put socks on to protect the bedding.
- Bring a huge wooden hammer with you to your dream. You'll need it to count the sheep!
