Natural Hair Dyeing
- Henna can be purchased any of the grocery stores around 50th Ave and Main (West Side) for about $5 per lb. An East Indian store in Hennessey St., Poco carries it.
- Add 1-2 teaspoon of Chinese tea- leaves (Pu Re Or Po Ley for red and golden colour) to the boiling water (about 3-4 oz). Wait for the colour to come out or you can put it in the microwave for 1-2 minutes.
- Mix the tea with Henna (2-3 teaspoons) into a paste. Add egg white to the paste.
- Apply the paste onto the gray hairs or wherever you like with a brush or an old toothbrush. Any leftover paste can be saved for future use. Make sure you label it.
- Use 2 big pieces of plastic wrap and completely wrap the whole head.
- Put 2-3 plastic shower caps on top.
- Add a big bath towel on the top of the shower caps. Leave them on for minimum 3 hours for the best result (minimum 2 1/2 hours) for your body heat to set the colour in. Do it once a week for 3 consecutive weeks. Then do it as needed.
- Wash hair with shampoo as you normally do.
- You can also use coffee grounds instead of Pu Re to achieve a coffee or chestnut colour. It is beautiful as highlights too.
- This technique uses all natural ingredients, and is cheap and easy to do.
